The Defining Attributes

of a Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are best known for several attributes, including:

However, just because a Mercedes-Benz is engineered to perfection, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its problems. They require preventative maintenance just like any other vehicle, and parts wear out and need repair.

MERCEDES-BENZ MAINTENANCE

Staying updated with maintenance is pivotal for the longevity, fuel economy, and resale value of your Mercedes-Benz. The owner’s manual provides a maintenance schedule, but if you don’t have one, our team at MB Automotive Services can assist.

Mercedes-Benz preventative maintenance includes:

Flushes generally take place every 40,000 to 60,000 miles or every four to five years, whichever comes first. Each oil change also includes a thorough visual inspection to anticipate potential issues, such as checking the brakes or spotting fluid leaks.

Mercedes-Benz

Repair

Mercedes-Benz vehicles have a complex electrical system, including the electronic control module, sensors, senders, advanced safety features and the infotainment system, not to mention feet upon feet of wiring.
Suspension and steering issues are always a safety concern, and these parts do wear out over time. Components include shocks, struts, bushings, tie rod ends, rack and pinion, gearboxes, power steering pumps, and high and low-pressure power steering hoses.
The engine will last seemingly forever when you keep up with maintenance. However, it will eventually wear out after 300,000 or more miles. You can rebuild the engine or replace it once the rings start letting blow-by past or the bearings become too thin. Transmissions also require maintenance and repair, including clutches, front pumps, transmission coolers, and transmission leaks.

Any component in the cooling system can fail or leak, including the radiator, thermostat, hoses, water pump and fans. Keeping the cooling system in optimal condition by flushing the coolant and replacing it every four to five years increases the longevity of the components and helps prevent overheating.

If you want to stay comfortable year-round, you must keep the heating and air conditioning systems maintained. Any of the components, including the heater core, evaporator, compressor, and condenser, can fail.

When the brake pads become too thin, the metal tab warns you to change the pads. If you don’t, the pads and the tab will score the rotors, which means your auto technician can’t machine them – you’ll have to buy new rotors. Other brake system issues include malfunctioning calipers, collapsed or broken brake hoses, rusted brake lines, malfunctioning master cylinder and malfunctioning ABS.

If the battery, alternator or starter fails, your Mercedes-Benz will most likely not start. The alternator charges the battery, so the starter has the power to turn the engine over. If you have a starting problem, don’t just change the battery, as a dead alternator or starter sounds like a dead battery in many cases.
